The music video I analyzed was ‘Makes No Sense’ by NBA Youngboy. In this music video there were many things to analyze. The first component of the video is race. The video is compiled with a couple of his friends and females. They are showing NBA YoungBoy rapping in a room alone with 2 other females in lingerie chopping up ice, drugs, etc while he’s dancing with his friends with loads of money. NBA YoungBoy is drawing attention to not only himself but the women in the behind him. NBA YoungBoy being alone with 2 women in lingerie sparks a certain sexual tension for the viewers. This is how all rappers are portrayed worldwide and even with realizing this; NBA YoungBoy is still allowing this video to define him.
The view of sexism in this music video is portrayed by the producer of the women in lingerie. They show more skin and less cloth so the sex appeal rating of the music video will rise and keep the viewers viewing. The image of women in lingerie is supposed to show the ‘true beauty’ of women in America. In music videos women are portrayed sexually rather than for their features with clothing on. The message music producers want to get across is that a women’s image should be processed in a way with less clothes. NBA YoungBoy also walks around with all designer clothing, diamond chains, and earrings. This shows the young community that all the materialistic items are needed but in all reality they’re not. The beauty norms reflected in this video are the materialistic items as well as less clothing shows the true beauty of one self. Your body has to be slim or skinny to look good and you have to be tall to be more attractive as a male. The basic norms of the male and female gender scale are ridiculous. If you’re not over 5’11 as a male you’re less attractive. If you’re not slim, skinny, or “thick” as a woman than you’re disregarded. The problem is people are stuck in the ways of how people look and not their person. That’s why America will be stuck in this bottomless pitt until they figure out how to manage to how people look at society.
